With the summer here, we know a lot of our patients will be enjoying fun summer vacays! Here’s 5 travel tips for your teeth while you’re away ☺
- Make time for a check up
If you can, schedule your next regular dental visit before your trip. Having a thorough exam and cleaning can leave with a piece a mind so that you can enjoy your vacation 100%!
- In case of emergency
Have your dentist’s contact info handy. If something is hurting and you think you need to talk to someone, you probably do! More dental problems can be solved over the phone than you would think. Our dentists can let you know if it’s something that needs to be treated right away or if it can wait until you get back.
Forget your toothbrush?
Sometimes packing can be overwhelming and we can forget things! If you find yourself temporarily without a toothbrush, you can rinse vigorously with water to wash away bacteria or you could also put some toothpaste on a clean washcloth. When you finally get to the nearest drug store make sure you get a soft, ADA approved brush.
Pack sugarless gum
Chewing gum can help relieve ear pressure during a flight. Research shows that chewing sugarless gum for 20 minutes after a meal can help prevent cavities. That’s because it keeps salvia flowing which helps wash away cavity-causing bacteria. Just make sure its sugar less and ADA approved gum.
Getting back on track after your trip
Sometimes when we are away we let things slide, such as not brushing or flossing as much as we do at home. Or maybe even indulging in too many sweets. If this happens, don’t beat yourself up about it. Just get back into your normal routine of brushing 2 times a day for 2 minutes and flossing twice a day!
